Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA

.SYNOPSIS...
Fair and dry weather is expected this week. It will be a little
breezier late Tuesday into Wednesday, with some coastal clouds.
Stronger high pressure and weak offshore flow will bring dry and
warmer weather Thursday and Friday. It looks much warmer with
stronger offshore breezes this weekend.
&&
.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...
The showers ended last evening and skies have cleared out quite
cleanly early this morning. With clear skies in the valleys
allowing for maximum radiational cooling, there should be some
patches of ground fog early this morning to go with the chilly
temps, dipping into the 40s for many valleys. Skies today will be
quite sunny, but with increasing high clouds late today and
tonight. A trough of low pressure will move west to east to the
north of SoCal Tuesday into Wednesday. This will enhance onshore
breezes, especially for the mountains, deserts, and coastal waters
during this time, but only to around 25-30 mph. It will also
regenerate some marine layer low clouds for the coast and valleys.
Later Wednesday into Friday, high pressure aloft amplifies more
meaningfully, producing a noticeable warming trend for Thursday
into the weekend. With colder air occupying the interior West at
the same time, some offshore flow will develop for SoCal, but at
this time offshore winds do not appear strong or otherwise
problematic, especially through Friday. However, right now it
looks like the weekend could have stronger offshore winds, but
for now that is a low confidence idea. High temperatures through
Wednesday will continue several degrees below average for this
time of year, mostly in the 70s at lower elevations, low 80s for
the low deserts. Lows will be mild, actually a few degrees above
seasonal averages in the mid 40s and 50s. Highs and lows will
increase by the weekend, and the offshore flow will change the
distribution of the highest temperatures. That means lots of 80s
west of the mountains, even close to the coast. Some upper 80s
even look probable for inland coastal areas and western valleys,
if all goes to plan.

.AVIATION...
010530...Generally VFR conditions expected through the peripd.
Scattered cloud cover based 4000-6500 ft MSL banked against the
mountains and through San Diego County. ISO -SHRA will continue to
taper off in San Diego Co and then end by 09Z, with clouds gradually
scattering out overnight. Brief, intermittent MVFR conditions with
cigs dipping down to 2500-3000 ft MSL are possible through 09Z,
unlikely after.
&&
.MARINE...
Weak winds expected through Tuesday morning, followed by more
elevated onshore winds Tuesday afternoon and evening, with gusts in
the outer coastal waters potentially exceeding 20 knots.
&&
.BEACHES...
Southwesterly swell (3 ft at 15 seconds from 200 degrees) will bring
elevated surf through Monday, with breaking wave heights 3 to 6
feet. Surf combined with a high tide near 6 ft will continue the
potential for minor tidal overflow during the Monday afternoon high
tide around 3:30 PM.
Tides are expected to increase for the end of the week, with tides
reaching 7 ft as early as Friday. Tides will peak over the weekend
into early next week around 7.5 ft.
Reminder, tides mentioned have been corrected to reflect the current
trends in actual tide observations.
&&
.SKYWARN...
Skywarn activation is not requested. However weather spotters are
encouraged to report significant weather conditions.
